Great news! After a diligent search, Ottawa Medical Students for Life member (also a member of our CPL Board of Directors) has found someone willing to participate in a public debate. The Medical Students for Life joined with the (non-medical) University of Ottawa Students for Life group took to campus with posters and spread the invitation for someone to oppose Stephanie Gray, Founder and Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Bioethical Reform in a debate about abortion.
Jovan Morales, Vice President of the University of Ottawa Community of Athiests and an experienced debater, took the challenge.
The debate, "Should physicians provide, or refer for, abortion?"
Friday, November 11, 7:30pm. University of Ottawa, SITE bldg (800 King Edward Ave.), Room A0150. Be EARLY - we are expecting a packed house. If we have to move to a larger lecture hall, I will post here, and a sign will be posted on Room A0150.

National Campus Life Network recently announced the creation of a new grant of $1500.00, to be awarded each year to a deserving campus club. This grant is sponsored by The Interim (Canada’s Life & Family Newspaper) and Niagara Region Right to Life, and facilitated by National Campus Life Network.
"The purpose of this grant is to recognize the work of pro-life clubs and assist them in their efforts on campuses. The grant will be given to the group whose event proposal demonstrates creativity, planning, and leadership and will have a substantial impact on the university culture."
While the deadline for grant application submissions has passed for this year, I encourage those of you involved in a pro-life campus club to look into it for the 2012-2013 school year.
Take a look at the NCLN website - you may find some of their resources helpful to your campus group. And don't hesitate to get in touch with Rebecca Richmond at NCLN - we just love her!

We are happy to announce the 2011 Medical Students Forum at the Lord Elgin Hotel & National Arts Centre in Ottawa, November 11-13! See our EVENTS page for the full announcement and scholarship application.
Speakers include:
Dr. John Scott; Dr. Rene Leiva, Dr. Will Johnston (Canadian Physicians for LIfe); Dr. Stephen Genuis; Stephanie Gray (Canadian Center for Bioethical Reform); John Robson; Andrea Mrozek and Brigitte Pellerin(ProWomanProLife); Theresa Zimmermann & Pat Erry (Canadian Association of Pregnancy Support Services); and Dr. Thomas Bouchard (Canadian Physicians for Life).
The opening session on Friday night will be a debate featuring Stephanie Gray, Executive Director of the Canadian Center for Bioethical Reform, held on the Ottawa University campus. This event is open to the public.
In addition to hearing world class speakers talk about pro-life issues from a medical/scientific perspective, medical students attending the forum have a great opportunity to network with other pro-life medical students and physicians. We have built more free time and extended meal breaks to facilitate this interaction.
Applications are due by October 7th, so don't delay!
